About Word Editor

Open a Word document and edit it right in your browser, the way you would in Word: type and delete text, change fonts, sizes, colours, bold and italic, headings and lists, line spacing and alignment, edit tables (add or delete rows and columns, merge cells, borders and shading), insert pictures, page breaks and links, and change headers and footers. Pages are laid out like Word, with zoom and undo. Save gives you a real .docx that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Pages and LibreOffice. The document is opened and saved on your device – it is not uploaded. Older .doc, .odt and .rtf files are converted once on our server first.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. Free with no sign-up, no watermark and no hidden limits on pages or files beyond what your device can handle.

Is my document uploaded?

No – .docx files are opened, edited and saved in your browser. Only older formats (.doc, .odt, .rtf) and the optional PDF download are processed once on our server and deleted right away.

Will the formatting be kept?

Text, styles, fonts, colours, lists, tables, pictures, headers, footers, page size and margins are kept when you save. Rare features such as embedded charts, SmartArt, equations and macros may not show while editing; when in doubt, keep a copy of the original.

Can I track changes or add comments?

You can add comments and see tracked changes in the review tools. For heavy review work with many reviewers, desktop Word is still the better choice.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, it works in mobile browsers. Editing long documents is easier on a tablet or computer – use Full screen for more room.

Can I open a .doc file?

Yes. Old .doc files (and .odt or .rtf) are converted to .docx once on our server, then edited in your browser and saved as .docx.
