About Plagiarism Checker for Teachers
Paste text or upload a whole class set of Word (DOCX), PDF or TXT essays. Kitbly compares every essay with every other one (word shingles and MinHash, no limit and no account) and highlights the shared passages with a similarity percentage. Optionally it also checks sample sentences against the web and links the sources. Download a PDF report for your records. Results are indicators only: a match can be a quotation, a common phrase or properly cited work, so always use your own judgement.
Frequently asked questions
How does the student-vs-student comparison work?
Each essay is split into overlapping five-word phrases. We compare these phrases between every pair of essays and merge matching runs into highlighted passages. It's free and unlimited.
How does the web check work?
We pick about eight distinctive sentences from each essay and search for them on the web using Brave Search, then link the pages that contain the same wording. To keep the service free there are 3 web checks per day.
Does a high percentage prove plagiarism?
No. It shows overlapping wording. Quotes, references, set phrases and shared templates also match. Read the highlighted passages and talk to the student before deciding.
Are student files stored?
No. Uploaded files are read in memory and deleted straight away (at the latest after 1 hour). They are never shared, sold or used to train AI. This makes the tool easy to use under FERPA and GDPR.
Is the Plagiarism Checker for Teachers free?
Yes, completely free with no signup and no daily limit.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac.
